River Trout Fishing – 3 Essential Tips To Help You Catch More Trout While River Fishing

By tkugler at Fri, 2010-02-19 04:49 | Trout Fishing

There are two major places that trout can be found; rivers and lakes. To me the only real place to fish for and catch trout are rivers, and not only rivers but in rivers while wading. Sure, trout are caught from lakes all the time, but for me there is simply nothing like river trout fishing. The interesting thing about this is that I am not a fly fisherman. Many people automatically think of fly fishing when they think of river trout fishing, but I am an ultra light spin fisherman and have never engaged in the act of "flea flicking" (as my fishing mentor used to call fly fishing).

In this article I will outline 3 essential tips to help you catch more trout while river fishing and these tips will involve the use of traditional spin fishing gear and waders. These tips have been learned and refined over more than two decades if river fishing for trout all across the United States. Now you can implement these tips into your trout fishing repertoire and start experiencing more trout fishing success.

The tips are being listed in no particular order and are of equal importance in my opinion.

  1. Employ A Fishing Vest – Fishing vests have been used by fly fishermen for many years, but its high time that spin fishermen employ fishing vests as well. I was taught to use a fishing vest to carry all of my trout fishing gear on the river many years ago, and this tip has served me well. Fishing vests have a ton of pockets for holding everything you may need when you are out on the river. Small plastic boxes can be placed in the pockets for carrying lures, hooks, and extra terminal tackle and there is plenty of room in the pockets for extra line, drinking water, and any other little extra that you may need on the river. Any time that you are engaged in river trout fishing make sure that you use a fishing vest to carry your trout fishing gear.
  2. Employ A Worm Bag – When fishing for trout in rivers one of the best trout baits to use is live worms. A worm bag is simply a convenient and easy way to hold and carry your live worms while river trout fishing. With a worm bag your live worms are always literally at your fingertips waiting to be used at all times. This is a huge time saver when you are out on the river fishing for trout while wading.
  3. Employ Knowledge – To be a successful river trout fisherman adding knowledge to your "database" ,so to speak, is of the utmost importance. This can be accomplished by reading articles, books, and websites as well as spending time of the river fishing. The knowledge that is gained by implementing and practicing ideas is impossible to beat. If you want to catch more trout while river fishing gaining and implementing knowledge is of the utmost importance.

The bottom line is that these tips are essential for anyone interested in catching trout consistently while river fishing. Add one or all of these tips to your river trout fishing arsenal sooner rather than later.
