Fishing For Trout In The Spring – 3 Early Season Trout Fishing Tips
As the weather begins to warm, trout fishing is beginning to bear down on us like an out of control car in a freak ice storm, and these 3 early season trout fishing tips will help you experience much more success when fishing for trout in the spring of the year. The spring provides many challenges for the early season trout fisherman such as high/muddy water in many rivers as well as large crowds attempting to catch trout along many lakes.
Fishing for trout in the spring is a great way to "knock the rust off" of your trout fishing skills (so to speak). The winter can cause us to lose our "feel" when it comes to trout fishing and the spring is the time to get that "feel" back. Then as trout fishing season moves into the optimal months of June and July you will have your "feel" back and be ready to go.
The spring is actually a great time to catch trout; it just calls for some slightly different techniques and methods. These early season tips are being listed in no particular order and should all be added to your trout fishing arsenal.
- Use A Longer Fishing Rod – In the spring rivers are usually much higher than at other times of the year, which means that a longer fishing rod is in order to fish for trout effectively. For those of you who trout fish in lakes a longer fishing rod will give you added casting distance and leverage for fighting trout. I like to use a six to six and a half foot ultra light rod when fishing for trout in the spring, rather than the four foot rod I employ when water levels are "normal". The bottom line is that in the spring a longer fishing rod should be used when fishing for trout.
- Have Fingerless Gloves Available – In the spring the weather can still be quite cool and it can also change very quickly. Keeping your hands warm is of the utmost importance when fishing for trout in the springtime. Fishing gloves (or fingerless gloves) give you the use of your fingers for baiting up, re tying, and feeling your line while keep the rest of your hands warm and comfortable in cool weather. Have fingerless gloves available to you anytime the temperatures are the least bit cold.
- Have A Casting Bubble Available – When fishing for trout is lakes or large pools in rivers having a casting bubble available is a great idea. A casting bubble gives spin fishermen the ability to fish with flies and any self respecting trout fisherman knows how effective flies can be when fishing for our beautiful friends called trout. Having a casting bubble in your fishing vest so that you can fish with a fly is must when fishing for trout in the spring.
Spring Trout fishing provides many unique challenges, but these 3 simple tips will help you experience more trout fishing success. Add one or all of these tips to your trout fishing repertoire today.
