Spent Sunday fishing at a warm water discharge on the Ohio near Ripley Ohio. Fished from 8am till about 5:30 pm..air temp was in the high 30's to low 40's with about a 20 mph wind blowing in from the south southwest.
Totals for the day were a five gallon bucket full of skipjack..1 7lb channel cat...2 small walleyes (about 10 inches long) and 2 small hybred's (about 5 inches long)
The skipjack where caught on sabaki rigs size #12 and either double or triple rig grub 1/4 oz size with white 1 inch grubs..
biggest challenge was dealing with the wind...we could only fish for about 1/2 hour on the point in the wind before the hands became to numb to feel anything...would then take about 15 min break out of the wind to warm hands back up then back to the point for more fish.
started with 1/4 oz wieght on the sakaki rigs but had to switch to 3/4 oz just to maitain feel with my bait rig..once we went to the heavier weight we started to catch more fish.
The channel cat was caught on a piece of cut skipjack..got several more channel bits but with no hook ups...the would run the baitrunner for about 10 secs the drop the bait...probably smaller channels as we where using large chunks of skipjack about 2 inchs in width..
