Fantastic Family Fishing Day in Courtenay
Fantastic Family Fishing Day in Courtenay
The Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association hosted their first Free Family Fishing Event this past weekend. Over Saturday and Sunday, approximately 300 anglers of all ages tried their luck in the club's stocked 2 1/2 acre pond. Club members were on hand to assist in providing casting instructions, rigging gear and helping to land fish. They even instructed the proper technique for cleaning and caring of the catch.
Good old garden hackle was the killer, with PowerBait running in close second. Some other fish were taken with roe, spinners and stuff from the back of the fridge that was unrecognizable!
On both days, there was a heavy downpour just after lunchtime that cut the crowd down considerably. The unsettling weather also affected the fishing too, with several long lulls and fewer fish biting. However, a poll of adults and kids who attended, was 100% in favour of coming back next year to do it again!
On both Saturday and Sunday, the club members got to play early Santa, by giving a considerable number of kids who arrived without gear, their very own fishing rod to keep. A big "Thank You" to the BC Family Fishing Society for providing that opportunity. An equally big "Thank You" is due to the BC Fresh Water Fisheries Society for stocking the pond so that the community had this great gathering that is sure to become an annula event
