Fish Tanks and Accessories: What to Know
Contrary to popular belief, you can’t just pick up a goldfish, toss the little guy into a small bowl of water, and just let him be. He won’t just ‘do fine’ and he certainly won’t survive. Pet fish need to be fed, cleaned up after, and cared for in general, just like any other animals under human supervision. Domesticated fish have a plethora of needs, and while most of these needs are basic and shouldn’t take too much work to meet, they can’t simply be overlooked. With the right armament of fish tank accessories, any homeowner and/or fish caretaker can provide his/her pet fish with everything they need to thrive.
Cleaning Supplies
Even though it seems like a bowl full of water would be the last thing in the world to get dirty, that certainly isn’t the case. A fish tank needs to be cleaned well and often. You want to prevent the buildup of grime on the glass walls, and also want to avoid film from gathering together at the surface of the water. A basic fish tank cleaning kit should provide you with all the things you need to clean the bowl/tank, though you’ll have to put your hand into the tank to do the cleaning. Another option is the use of a high tech accessory. An interior fish tank cleaning device can be set to automatically clean the underwater environment, but again, this piece of technology needs to be maintained and can’t be expected to necessarily clean the entire tank on its own. If you are completely opposed to plunging your fist into that tank of water, you may want to rethink being a fish caretaker all-together.
Interior Tank Accessories
Unlike cleaning supplies, these accessories are much more fun to shop for and look at. Interior fish tank accessories can include a whole range of fun, playful, and creatively designed pieces. Among the most popular are bubblers, and interior tank bubblers can come in the form of undersea volcanoes. For hiding places for the fish, you can’t beat underwater castles and tank-bottom shipwrecks. Paired with fake underwater plants, you’ll have created an entire at-home pet fish environment that looks like a thriving undersea destination. Just make sure that any interior tank pieces aren’t so large and imposing for the tank you own that they completely envelop the tank. The fish still need space to swim around, after all.
