Nebraska wins three first place awards in ACI 2005 Competition
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has been awarded first place honors in three categories in the Association for Conservation Information (ACI) 2005 Annual Awards competition.
“Nebraska Wild and Scenic,” the 132-page August-September issue of NEBRASKAland Magazine received first place awards in the One-Time 4-Color Publication category and in the Photography category. The special issue was coordinated by Tim Reigert, NEBRASKAland art director.
“How to Give Your Catch a Second Chance,” by Regional Editor Rocky Hoffmann was awarded first place recognition in the Magazine Fisheries Article category. Hoffmann’s article appeared in the July 2005 issue of NEBRASKAland.
Hoffmann was also awarded second place in the Magazine Wildlife Article category for his article “The Way Hunting Was,” in NEBRASKAland’s January 2005 issue.
NEBRASKAland Magazine was awarded third place honors in the 4-Color Magazine category this year.
Trail Tales, the Commission’s colorful 16-page magazine for kids that focuses on nature, wildlife, and a variety of outdoor activities, received the third place award in the Education category. Trail Tails is published four times each school year and made available to schools across the state for use by their fourth-grade students. Trail Tales is edited by Information and Education Division Administrator Ken Bouc and NEBRASKAland Magazine Editor Doug Carroll, with artwork by Donna Schimonitz.
“Stalking Mule Deer,” an article by Regional Editor Eric Fowler published in the November 2005 issue of NEBRASKAland was awarded third place recognition in the Photography category.
ACI is a non-profit association of information and education professionals representing state, federal and Canadian wildlife agencies and private conservation organizations. Its members play a major role in providing natural resource, environmental, wildlife and other information to the public through a variety of means, many of which are continental in scope.
The ACI Annual Awards Contest recognizes excellence in more than 25 categories and promotes craft improvement through competition. First place winners receive a handsome trophy, and certificates are awarded to second and third place winners in each category. Professionals from both the public and private sector evaluate entries and offer constructive written critiques.
The awards were presented at the ACI 2006 Conference in Orlando, Fla.
