States from Massachusetts through Virginia have scheduled their hearings to gather public comment on Draft Addendum IV to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Tautog. The dates, times and locations of the scheduled meetings follow:

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR HABITAT MANAGEMENT ON PRIVATE LANDS

Individual landowners, land trusts, sportsmen’s clubs, farmland owners and other conservation organizations are eligible to apply for available wildlife habitat management funding through MassWildlife’s Landowner Incentive Program (LIP). The application period will open on Monday, October 30 and will be posted on the State’s Comm-Pass website at www.comm-pass.com. The deadline for receiving applications for LIP is 5 pm Friday, December 22, 2006. WILDLIFE LAND ACQUISITIONS CELEBRATED

Anglers, hunters, birders, local residents, cranberry growers, local, state and federal officials and other open space advocates gathered in Sturbridge and Hanson in mid-October to celebrate the acquisition of important conservation lands. “These critical acquisitions represent Massachusetts’ continued commitment to habitat protection for wildlife diversity in the Commonwealth,” said Bob Golledge, Secretary of Environmental Affairs. “The purchases in Sturbridge and Hanson serve as examples of creative partnerships between a variety of stakeholders: municipalities, sportsmen, agriculture, tourism groups, and other conservationists who feel strongly about protecting open space for wildlife and recreation and providing stewardship for future generations.” Both protected proeprties will be open to fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and other passive outdoor recreation activities.
