Salmon, Sturgeon & Tuna on Oregon's North Coast

Salmon, Sturgeon and Tuna are currently on tap on Oregon's North Coast.
Sliver and Chinooks are stagging infront of the Columbia River offering a great salmon fishing opportunity for the next six week until mid September. The silvers are starting to gain weight with a few fish tipping 10 pounds this past week. We will see these fish continue growing seeing fish to 20 pounds by the end of August both in the ocean and in the River. Chinooks are also stagging and while the numbers are down for the year we expect some good fish to be taken over then next six weeks with a few fish to fifty pounds headed for the Columbia River.

SALEM, Ore.—Oregon anglers can pick up a copy of the 2007 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations from license agents today.

Anglers are highly encouraged to carefully review the 2007 regulation because many important rule changes occurred during the 2006 fishing season. The new rules are highlighted in blue and appear throughout the regulation.

Flooding postpones coho public meeting in Tillamook

TILLAMOOK, Ore —Due to severe flooding along the north Oregon Coast, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff, at the request of local officials, have postponed the Nov. 15 Coastal Coho Conservation Plan town hall meeting in Tillamook.

ODFW gives landowners funds to help restore wildlife habitat burned by wildfires

SALEM, Ore. —The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Access and Habitat Program has awarded $258,966 to eight landowners to reseed and restore wildlife habitat on 7,885 acres that were burned during the 2006 wildfire season.

Approved land exchange deal will improve public access in the Riverside Wildlife Area

SALEM, Ore.- The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today approved the conclusion of a land exchange for the Riverside Wildlife Area
.
The Riverside Wildlife Area, in Malheur County, is bisected throughout its length by a privately owned rail service corridor. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife owns the land on either side of it. Acquisition of the corridor will improve public access to the wildlife area that includes habitats for rainbow trout, upland game birds (quail, chukars, and pheasants), bighorn sheep, deer and elk.

DIAMOND LAKE —Today, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff are applying rotenone to Diamond Lake , a high-mountain lake in southwestern Oregon , to kill the invasive tui chub that have drastically degraded water quality and destroyed one of the state's most popular fisheries.

ROSEBURG – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that Diamond Lake now has non-detectable levels of rotenone present. The chemical compound, used in September to rid the lake of tui chub and improve its water quality, has broken down to trace levels.
