Fishing for Sailfish out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida

We just had a great weekend of Sailfishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The weather was perfect over the last five days, sun shinning and calm seas. There is a 2 to 3 foot swell off Fort Lauderdale, and no heavy winds, the average wind off Ft. Lauderdale has been 10 mph to 14 mph.

March madness

The redfishing is really hot in the texas bays. North winds have pushed the water out of the bays and the redfish have responded by coming of the flats and biting in the deeper water. I look for big catches of redfish in the next couble of days and as long as the north wind is prevailing it will continue.

Sharp Qualifier 105 Crew Avert Disaster on the High Seas

I was the charter master on the recent Qualifier 105 trip and want to share our story. Our scheduled departure was on September 2, and all thought and discussion was about was Hurricane John raging up the

Mexican
Coast

. I fielded a dozen calls and emails before the trip and I know the Q-Girls at the Qualifier office, Vicki and Erica, did the same. We tired to assure our anglers that the storm would most likely dissipate when it hit cooler water, that Captain John Klein had the latest state of the art weather and communications technology and would never put his passengers, crew or his large investment, (aka, boat), or his children’s father in harm’s way.

Tips On - Going on a Gamefishing Charter Boat

First, do your research. What you want to catch dictates were you want to go and fish. Once you decide where you want to go, find out what charter boats are in the area. Read magazines, get on line and put some time in to find out all you can about your options. When you have a couple of possibilities, call them up, drop them an email, ask them questions, not just how much is it? but what is the best time to come? What fish are in season? What type of tackle do you have on board and in what classes? Can the weather stop you going out? Do you fish under IGFA Rules? Is the skipper an IGFA Certified Captain? What about beginners? Can you put me in touch with a couple of previous clients? What types of fishing can you offer?

Review: Blue Ribbon Fishing Charters

Recently the occasion arose for me to re-visit Lake Tahoe where two years past I caught a limit of kokanee. That trip was really a blast as we limited out in two hours. With this in mind, I was really looking forward to another great one. Last October we left the dock at 5:00 am in our guides' 22 foot Lund but not after kokanee because they weren't biting. We were pursuing the famed mackinaw trout. Lake Tahoe "macs" grow to tremendous proportions. The lake record is 37 pounds, and it's not unusual to catch a 20 pounder. But usual sizes are consistently 10 pounds or less. Lake trout or mackinaw trout are cold water fish that are indigenous to the cold waters of Canada. Somebody a long time ago planted them in Tahoe where they grew to tremendous numbers and are now presenting to we anglers the best place in California to catch them.
